RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY Synopsis Released
An official synopsis for Sony Pictures and Screen Gems upcoming Resident Evil movie has been released offering some fans some additional insight on what we can expect to see from the film.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is being directed by Johannes Roberts and it was previously revealed that the movie would tell an origin story that will include “faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games,” and that it’s set to take place on a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998. It will be an adaptation of the first two games in the franchise.
The new synopsis for the movie reads:
Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever…changed…and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.
When previously talking about the film, Roberts said:
“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.”
The film’s cast includes Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin. Donal Logue (Gotham) has also been cast in the role of Chief Irons.
The movie will kick off “a new universe inspired by storylines and characters from Capcom’s classic Resident Evil games.”
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is set to hit theaters on September 3rd, 2021.
