Retro Trailer For The 1978 Sci-Fi Action Film LASERBLAST

This week’s retro trailer is for the the 1978 low-budget sci-fi action movie Laserblast, which was directed by Michael Rae.

The film follows a troubled teenager named Billy Duncan (Kim Milford), who stumbles upon an alien laser cannon in the desert. After discovering the powerful weapon, Billy becomes increasingly violent and unhinged as the device begins to physically and mentally transform him into a monstrous being.

Meanwhile, two stop-motion animated alien enforcers, who originally left the weapon behind after killing its previous owner, return to Earth to retrieve it. As Billy loses control, leaving a path of destruction in his wake, the authorities and the aliens converge for a final confrontation.

The film is infamous for its super cheap special effects, wooden acting, and incoherent storytelling, yet it has gained a cult following over the years, largely due to its unintentional campiness and nostalgic late-'70s sci-fi aesthetic.

The film was heavily mocked in an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, cementing its reputation as a so-bad-it’s-good cult classic.
