Review: The MM731 Is Simple and Sleek
Cooler Master is at it again! They have brought us their latest gaming mouse that is light, quick and lasts a long time. We’ve had our hands on it for a few weeks now and have tried all sorts of games and programs with it. While it is fairly simple for a gaming mouse, it can do the job well and with little complication.
The MM731 and the MM730 are practically identical. The only difference between them is that the MM731 has wireless capabilities while the MM730 doesn’t. We were sent the white MM731. So let’s talk about the actual design. Coming in either black or white, both have a simple and appealing finish and it feels and looks great. The mouse is about as average size as possible, which can appeal to the widest audience, makes sense. Even with smaller or bigger hands, the mouse is a good shape and size so that anyone can use it comfortably. The actual design is simple but looks nice. I would hope for a bit more flair and color, but it will work with anything you got.
As for performance, the MM731 stands as a great baseline for any PC user. The actual click of the mouse is loud and satisfying enough to feel responsive, but quiet enough to not bug anyone around you. I found it to be perfectly responsive using the dongle wireless mode, bluetooth or while connected by USB. The button layout is natural, but unfortunately limiting. With only two buttons on the side, gamers can’t go wild with customization or have much freedom in their layouts. The buttons are also flat/concave. While it didn’t bother me, I could see it be frustrating to others. It works well enough for shooters and strategy games and anything else in between. The battery life is plenty high and only requires charging every other week (or much less) depending on usage.
While the price may feel a bit steep for the minimalist design and features, the performance is that of a more expensive mouse. To wrap it up, the MM731 trades cool looks and fun features for consistent performance and a long battery life. If you already have a great mouse, this probably isn’t worth the trade (unless you’re going wireless), but if you need an upgrade from something old, this is a fine choice.
