Rob Zombie is Not a Fan of HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES and Calls it a "Calamitous Mess"
I’m a fan of Rob Zombie’s music, back in the day I would listen to it all the time and it was during that time that Zombie released his very first film House of 1000 Corpses. I was actually pretty excited about the movie as I wanted t see what Zombie would deliver as a horror film director. Well, I wasn’t impressed. I did not like the movie and I thought it was a complete mess.
The movie follows young couples traveling across the backwoods of Texas searching for urban legends of murder who end up as prisoners of a bizarre and sadistic backwater family of serial killers.
To me, it just felt like I was just watching people running around in a Halloween spook alley with no cohesive story. I know some people are fond of this movie, and while it does have a couple of fun moments, I’m not one of them, and neither is Zombie. In fact, he called the movie a “calamitous mess,” which I completely agree with.
During an interview with ScreenRant, Zombie shared his feelings on the movie, saying: "The first film [I directed], which people seem to love, is just a calamitous mess. Well, when it came out it seemed like everyone hated it. Now everyone acts like it's beloved in some way. All I see is flaw, upon flaw, upon flaw... upon flaw."
This being his first film it does makes sense that he’d be so critical of it. Regardless of his thoughts though, and my thoughts, there are people out there that do enjoy this film and I’m sure that he appreciates those fans who stick by it.
