SHAZAM! Director David F. Sandberg Set To Helm Netflix's Thriller BELOW

David F. Sandberg, the director of Shazam! and Lights Out, has signed on to helm a new film project for Netflix titled Below. The movie is also set to be produced by James Wan, who also discovered Sandberg and brought him in to direct Lights Out and later, Annabelle: Creation.

The spec script for Below was written by Greg Weidman and Geoff Tock (Star Trek: Section 31, In the Shadow of the Moon), and according to the report, the project had half a dozen studios and streamers in the mix to acquire it and Netflix ended up picking it up in the low seven-figures range.

Plot details are being kept under wraps. All we know is that it’s described as a genre thriller. Sandberg and Wan have created some great horror thrillers together so it’ll be interesting to see what this next project ends up being and what story it will tell.

Wan and Michael Clear will produce through their Atomic Monster banner along with Sandberg and Lotta Losten for Mangata as well as Roy Lee for Vertigo.
