Shia LaBeouf will Play His Dad in His Own Biopic with Lucas Hedges Playing Young Shia LaBeouf

There's a Shia LaBeouf biopic currently in development called Honey Boy, and Shia LaBeouf will be playing his father in the film. The young version of LaBeouf will be played by Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea, Lady Bird).

The movie comes from director Alma Har’el from a script that LaBeouf co-wrote. The film is said to tell, "in a roman-a-clef style, a story about LaBeouf's relationship with his father." It's also said to reflect many facets of LaBeouf’s life. The names of the characters will be changed and it will fictionalize some of the real events of LaBeouf’s life.

LaBeouf wrote the script using the pseudonym Otis Lort, which landed on the Black List of best-unproduced screenplays. This is the brief description of the story:

"A child actor and his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father attempt to mend their contentious relationship over the course of a decade."

This sounds like it's going to be a pretty heavy and personal film for LaBeouf. As you know, LaBeouf got his big break acting on Disney Channel’s Even Stevens and has described "ping-ponging between 12-step programs with his father, a former clown performer and recovering heroin addict, and the set." The title of the film, "Honey boy", was the nickname given to him by his father.

As you know, LaBeouf has been in a lot of trouble over the years but he really didn't have the best or healthiest childhood. If you're interested in knowing more about what it was like for him growing up, you can read all about it in this interview he did with Esquire. It's definitely worth the read.

At only 31-years-old, you wouldn't think that La Beouf has gone through enough to warrant a biopic, but if you read that interview,  you'll find that he does.
