Small Plot Details for SESAME STREET Movie Revealed

It looks like Anne Hathaway will be part of the Sesame Street film being directed by Portlandia’s Jonathan Krisel. What’s more, it looks like we finally have some idea of what the story for the film will be. While a lot of details are still being kept secret, THR says “it will be a musical drawing inspiration from the show's theme song, with characters getting lost in NYC and trying to find their way back to Sesame Street.”

Talking to THR about the legacy of Sesame Street, Krisel said:

Sesame Street never sold out. Yes, it’s on diapers and it’s a brand, but it never got cheesy. For 50 years, it has never lost its sheen. That’s why it’s daunting. You don’t want to be the guy who does that to Sesame Street.

Also, the director of the first Sesame Street film, Follow That Bird, Ken Kwapis, had some advice to share with Krisel that Kwapis had received from Jim Henson:

Jim asked that on day one of photography, I gather the crew and tell everyone to raise one hand and hold it for a full minute. He wanted the crew to understand how taxing it is for a puppeteer to hold up his puppet while you’re making umpteen lighting adjustments.

I have hopes for this film, and maybe my kid will be old enough to go see it when it comes out. There are murmurs that the film will begin shooting late Summer 2019.
