Sony Wins The Rights To Quentin Tarantino's 1969 Manson Family Film

After an intense bidding war that apparently involved all major studios but Disney, Deadline reports that Sony has landed the rights to Quentin Tarantino's final film set in 1969 with the Manson Family murders used as a backdrop to his story. Already big names like Margot Robbie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise are in talks to star in the feature.

As for why the bidding war was so intense, there's definitely a combination of things happening here.

  1. It's Quentin Tarantino's last film (supposedly).
  2. Widespread reports are coming out that Charles Manson is on his deathbed.

Take that latter news and you're going to have a bidding war regardless of who the director is. In fact, I would be surprised if this was the only piece of media we saw about Manson in development in the near future.

Right now Tarantino's film is eyeing a 2019 release, are you already psyched to see it, or are you going to wait for more details on this one?
