STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC Reaches Its Epic Finale with TRIALS OF THE JEDI

It’s been almost five years since Lucasfilm embarked on one of the most ambitious storytelling ventures in Star Wars with The High Republic.

This transmedia initiative has taken fans to a golden age of the Jedi Order, set centuries before the Skywalker saga. Through three phases of novels, comics, and more, the story has chronicled the Jedi’s battles against pirates, Force-devouring monsters, anti-Jedi cults, and the relentless chaos of the Nihil.

As the saga nears its conclusion, the stage is set for one final showdown.

Charles Soule’s upcoming novel, Trials of the Jedi, will close out the era this summer. You can check out the newly revealed cover, illustrated by Grant Griffin below. It mirrors the art of Soule’s Light of the Jedi, which launched The High Republic back in January 2021.

At the heart of Trials of the Jedi is the Jedi’s desperate mission to halt Marchion Ro and his Nihil forces. Ro’s war on the galaxy has left the Republic fractured, but his true weapon of terror is far more dangerous: the Nameless, Force-devouring creatures that threaten the very existence of the Jedi Order.

With the galaxy on the brink of collapse, nine Jedi, chosen by Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann, must embark on a perilous journey to the Nameless’ homeworld.

Their goal? To uncover the creatures’ secrets, stop their spread, and—if that wasn’t enough—save the galaxy from Ro’s legions.

Soule shared in a statment with io9: “Trials of the Jedi is an epic. The stakes are as high as they could possibly get—the Jedi we’ve come to know and love are facing an impossible challenge that could end with not just the destruction of their Order, but the galaxy as a whole.

“The Jedi and their allies step up to defend the light even when all around them is darkness. I wrote it to grab readers from page one and never let go. It’s intense stuff; a tale of great heroism and sacrifice.”

For fans who’ve followed The High Republic journey from the start, this novel promises to deliver the long-awaited payoffs:

Soule continued: “This book is the big finale of a story that’s been told across novels, comics, young adult, middle grade, and children’s books for four years. It’s a non-stop thrill ride that uses every bit of the emotional investment fans have in these Jedi and all their friends.”

But even newcomers to The High Republic era are invited to jump in. Soule explained that he making this new story accessible to those who might jump in for the first time:

“Every Star Wars story could be someone’s first, and I wanted to make sure Trials of the Jedi could serve as an introduction to the galaxy far, far away at its best.

“So, whether you’ve been closely following the story that began with Light of the Jedi back in 2021, or you’ve been dipping in and out, or perhaps haven’t read anything beyond Light, even if you’re entirely new to the High Republic era—this story is written for you.”

Reflecting on the journey, Soule admitted the weight of bringing this ambitious project full circle, saying:

“It was an honor and a privilege (and even a bit terrifying) to be asked to launch The High Republic with Light of the Jedi, and all of those things have been amplified now that I’ve gotten the chance to bring this grand adventure to a close. I gave Trials of the Jedi everything I’ve got, and I can’t wait for people to read it.”

Trials of the Jedi hits shelves on June 17, 2025.
