Steven Soderbergh Was the Catalyst in Getting BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC Made
Steven Soderbergh is best known for directing great movies like Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s 11-13, and Logan Lucky, but he has also produced his fair share of films and series as well. In his most recent producing project, the Starz series Mosaic, he worked alongside series writer Ed Solomon, who is known for writing Men In Black, the Now You See Me films, and of course, the first two Bill & Ted films.
Soderbergh was delighted to meet Solomon, and in a recent interview with Collider, he talked about the role he played in bringing the third installment of the franchise, Bill & Ted Face the Music, to life:
When Ed and I started working on Mosaic, I knew, of course, that he had Bill & Ted in his past. And one day we were talking, and he was like, “You know, we wrote a third Bill & Ted movie.” And I said, “Well, great! Like, what’s going on with that? Can I read it?” And I read it, and I was just part of a group of people, including Scott Kroopf, the original producer, and Keanu and Alex, that really wanted to see this happen. My role was more as cheerleader than anything. The companies that own the rights to make a sequel, I called them up and said, “This script’s hilarious, why aren’t we doing this?” We found a fantastic director, Dean Parisot, who I’ve known for a long time… I’ve seen it, it’s really good, and we’re almost done, and I feel like it’s the perfect movie for people who want to feel better about what’s happening right now.
It’s pretty awesome that he was able to give the film the push it needed in the right direction. Fans have been wanting this movie for a long time, and it’s the perfect movie to give us a little hope here in 2020. He went on to say that while the film has been scheduled for a long time to come out this August, nothing is totally clear right now. We will have to wait and see how the summer goes, and see what theaters are looking like around that time. Hopefully we can get back to the theaters soon, but if not, I hope we will be able to see Bill & Ted Face the Music at home.
Bill & Ted Face the Music stars Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, Samara Weaving, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi), Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr., and Amy Stoch. The movie is directed by Dean Parisot and is written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon.
