SUPERMAN Director James Gunn Responds to Fan Complaints About "Goofy" Flying Shot From New Teaser
DC Studios recently released a new TV spot for James Gunn's Superman, and while fans, like myself, enjoy the trailer and the new footage of Superman (David Corenswet) flying through the artic landscape, some fans didn’t like it and took to social media to complain.
The flying shot is a close-up of Superman's face as he comes out of a barrel roll to avoid some rocks of amountain. Some fans are saing the look on Superman’s face is "goofy", while others feel that the VFX makes him appear unnaturally still when his hair and cape can be seen billowing in the wind.
Some people just feel like there’s something off about the show, but Gunn took to social media to respond to the backlash, saying:
“There is absolutely zero CG in his face. People’s faces can look different when you put a wide angle lens up close. The background plate in Svalbard is 100% real, as is David.”
So, there it is! No dodgy CGI involved. It’s just the way that the scene was shot that made it look the way it did.
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.
“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
"It's set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we'll see how it affected this world's history and has shaped the DCU."
Superman also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
