SyFy Channel Orders Pilot For George R.R. Martin's NIGHTFLYERS

Looks like another George R.R. Martin property may be coming to cable TV. Syfy network has greenlighted a pilot for the supernatural thriller Nightflyers. The show is based on the novella by Martin and a 1987 film. Deadline reports that the project is potentially getting a series pick up because the studio is in the process of setting up a writers room for the show. Writer Jeff Buhler (Jacob’s Ladder) wrote the adaptation of Nightflyers.

Deadline explains the plot of the show:

"...set in the future on the eve of Earth’s destruction. In the hope of making contact with alien life, eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard the Nightflyer, a ship with a small, tightknit crew and a reclusive captain. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place, they start to question one another — and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought."

Nightflyers is executive produced by Gene Klein, David Bartis and Doug Liman of Hypnotic; Robert Jaffe who wrote and produced the 1987 Nightflyers movie will work as a producer on the show. Martin is not involved in the project because he has an exclusive deal at HBO.

What do you guys think? Are you excited for Nightflyers? Are you worried that Martin won't be involved at all?
