The AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Writers on How They Would Fix The DC Cinematic Universe

Avengers: Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have done an incredible job with the films that they've worked on with Marvel Studios. They have a great sense of character and story development. The two recently appeared on Kevin Smith's Fat Man on Batman and while Smith was talking to them, he asked how they would fix the DC Cinematic Universe.

"You guys have made wonderful films about people. You don't make movies about super heroes, you make movies about people who have these powers, and they happen to have these powers. That being said, if somebody offered you a fuckton of money and swayed you to the dark side and said, 'Fix these fucking movies,' how would you fix the DC universe?"

Markus responded with the following:

"I mean, I would look at what Marvel did out of necessity, in that they didn't have their A-list characters. They didn't have Spider-Man. They didn't have the X-Men. They went down a line and found a, I mean, he's pretty fucking famous, he's Iron Man, but he wasn't there, and they made a really good movie out of it."

He goes on to explain that if he was developing the DC Cinematic Universe, he would introduce the characters one by one in solo films rather than throwing them all together in one movie.

"I might put Batman and Superman and everybody else, I mean Wonder Woman is doing fine, aside for a second. Go through the vast world and go, 'That guy,' or 'That girl,' and go, 'Let's just make a really good movie and not a universe and see what happens.' There's a lot of spaghetti being thrown at the wall."

McFeely added his two cents, saying:

"My familiarity with the DC universe is not that great but I can just say, strategically, 'Make one.' To quote Justice League, 'Save one person.'"

In response to that Smith amusingly responds, "You would fix them with their own advice!" It sounds like that's what DC is actually starting to do now, though. They started in the right direction with Man of Steel, then they just jumped the gun and felt they need to rush to Justice League, which obviously didn't work out very well.

I'd like to believe that Warner Bros. has learned from there mistakes and that from here on out they will start making one great film after another. I'm excited for Aquaman, Shazam!, and Wonder Woman 1984, The Batman, and a few others, but then you have all those multiple Joker movies in development!

They have new people in charge of DC Entertainment, so it's going to be interesting to see how the DC films will turn out in the future. I hope that everything moving forward ends up being great!

What do you think about what Markus and McFeely had to say about fixing the DCEU?
