Netflix is producing a film adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book series Dept. H. Paradise Hills director Alice Waddington is set to helm with The Maze Runner scribe T.S. Nowlin adapting the script.

The comic book series was written and illustrated by Matt Kindt, and it launched back in 2016. Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Dark Horse Entertainment will produce.

The story is set “after a renowned scientist is mysteriously killed in a deep-sea research station and his estranged daughter is sent six miles below the surface to investigate. With the pressure building and the water rising, she must race against time to solve the murder as she uncovers the truth behind the station’s purpose.”

Dark Horse Entertainment has a first-look deal with Netflix, and this is apparently a high priority for the streaming service. They reportedly met with a lot of directors over the past several months before hiring Waddington. I’m not really familiar with her work, but she obviously impressed the producing team with her vision.
