THE FLASH Filmmakers Talk About the "Almost Shocking" Amount of Support They Received From Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. and DC’s The Flash screened for members of the press this week, less than two months ahead of its wide release, and just as we’ve heard from recent screening results, the audience loved it. Some of our own GeekTyrant crew was there, and they gave their super positive (spoiler-free) reactions to the film, which you can check out here.

Part of the experience featured a post-screening Q&A with the film’s director, Andy Muschietti, and his sister, producer of the film, Barbara Muschietti. While in the panel, the pair chatted about working for Warner Bros., who have historically butted heads with some directors of DC films, and have had to field the fiasco surrounding this film- including exiting writers and directors, as well as the controversial public behavior of the film’s lead actor, Ezra Miller.

But amid the glowing reviews, the Muschiettis explained that they had a fantastic experience making the film, and received an immense amount of support in doing so. They also had a bigger budget than either was prepared to deal with, even after making WB’s It films. /Film reports that Barbara explained:

"Well, you know, it's fascinating that your biggest gift is also your biggest problem, which is money. You get more money and that's great. You get more money and that's terrible, too."

Still, she insisted she and her brother were taken aback at just how hands-off WB was:

"But I have to say, and this is real, we had so much support from the studio to do the movie that Andy wanted to do. It was almost shocking, the support and trust that they put in us and a movie of this size, and I think that shows because we got to do something really personal."

That just goes to show that the studio learned from making films like Zack Snyder’s Justice League, or the first Suicide Squad, that with too many opinions, filmmakers’ visions often get muddled, and no one wins. Now they have a hit on their hands that many are saying is of the best superhero films ever made.

You can be the judge of that when The Flash hits theaters on June 16th.
