The Latest Update Blog for DIABLO IV is All About Items

Joe Shely is the lead game designer for Diablo IV and he recently provided fans with a new update on the game. The topic for the latest update blog? Itemization. To start off, Shely talks about how the team is listening to feedback and goes into more detail about how items are going to take a bit of a lesser role with stats. Basically, as you level, you can spend skill points to increase your stats which will affect each class differently and then items can provide bonuses depending on how high certain skills are.

Then we dive into more about items. Shely talks about how different types of weapons will have different attack speeds. Smaller weapons are faster, but larger weapons typically deal more damage. They’ve also been working on having weapons “feel more real and physical.” In addition, item icons are hi-res renders of the actual item instead of a stock image.

Talking about the different levels of different items, the team has decided to stick with Magic, Rare, and Legendary tiers, but they are making some changes. For starters, Mythic items are being replaced with Unique items. Also, magic item affixes will have more potential power and Rare and higher items will have more affixes available to them. Also, Legendary affixes will now roll randomly. Unique items will have fixed affixes and will usually feature class-specific powers.
