The MEAN GIRLS Musical Directors Say They Would Like to Direct HAMILTON for the Screen
Mean Girls: The Musical was released in theatres in January, and it did pretty well with the fans of the original movie. The new musical version was based on the Broadway musical, which was adapted from the 2004 movie, which was based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. The new film had some cultural updates, new jokes, songs, and scenes, and it cut a few scenes which filled out the story, but were known well enough by fans of the franchise.
The directors of the musical, Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., recently sat down with ComicBook to chat about what they’d like to do next, and they mentioned wanting to take on an adaptation of one of the biggest Broadway hits of all time. Perez Jr. explained:
"Hamilton. Alexander Hamilton. We're screaming it from the treetops like he would. But unless maybe Lin wants to direct it, but ... That would be amazing. That would be an incredible thing, too. But if he doesn't want to direct it... We're not throwing away our shot."
I think it would be cool if Lin-Manuel Miranda directed the adaptation of Hamilton, but either way, I’d love to see a movie version. I’m a big fan of the musical, and I think a movie would do really well in the box office, just as Wicked is anticipated to.
Would you like to see Hamilton adapted for the big screen?
