The Russo Bros. To Produce The Visually Stunning THE ELECTRIC STATE Novel For IT Director Andy Muschietti
Avengers: Infinity Wars directors Joe and Anthony Russo have just acquired the rights to an illustrated novel from Simon Stålenhag called The Electric State. Apparently, there was a heated bidding war for the project and they ended up winning.
According to Deadline, they are also in talks with IT director Andy Muschietti to helm the project and this sounds like an awesome, visually stunning film for him to work on! The script for the movie will be written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely who both wrote Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War.
The novel is a "re-imagined low tech apocalyptic mid 90s vision of the American West, with stunning visual artwork. The narrative artbook was produced through a Kickstarter campaign, a link worth watching because it conveys the visual scope with compelling images. Simon Stålenhag is the internationally acclaimed author, concept designer and artist behind Tales from the Loop and Things from the Flood. His images depict hyper-realistic Scandinavian landscapes and he tapped that style to convey America in The Electric State."
The Russo Brothers had this to say in a statement:

In late 1997, a runaway teenager and her yellow toy robot travel west through a strange USA, where the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside heaped together with the discarded trash of a high tech consumerist society in decline. As their car approaches the edge of the continent, the world outside the window seems to be unraveling ever faster as if somewhere beyond the horizon, the hollow core of civilization has finally caved in.
This looks like it's going to be an amazing movie! I can't wait to see these images brought to life!
