The Sea Shows No Mercy in First Trailer for Colin Firth's New Film THE MERCY

Colin Firth takes on the role of Donald Crowhurst in an upcoming film The Mercy, which tells the inspirational true story of an amateur sailor who decided to build a boat and sail around the world without making any stops along the way. What follows is a harrowing adventure as his wife (Rachel Weisz) stays behind with the kids and hopes that he comes homes alive!

The Mercy was directed by James Marsh, who is the Oscar-nominated director of The Theory of Everything. I enjoy these kinds of stories, and this one looks like it made for a great movie. It might not be for everyone, but stories about ordinary people who do extraordinary things inspire me.

Here’s the synopsis:

Following his Academy Award® nominated film The Theory of Everything, James Marsh directs the incredible true story of Donald Crowhurst (Colin Firth), an amateur sailor who competed in the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in the hope of becoming the first person in history to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe without stopping. With an unfinished boat and his business and house on the line, Donald leaves his wife, Clare (Rachel Weisz) and their children behind, hesitantly embarking on an adventure on his boat the Teignmouth Electron.

The Mercy already opened in the UK but will get a limited theatrical released in the U.S. starting on November 30th. Then for one night only, on Thursday, December 6th, 2018 it will play in theaters all across the U.S.
