There's a CREEPSHOW Anthology Series Coming From THE WALKING DEAD's Greg Nicotero

One of my favorite horror anthology films that I enjoyed growing up was Stephen King and George A. Romero's 1982 Creepshow. The movie was a homage to the horror comics of the 1950s. Well, according to Entertainment Weekly, The Walking Dead executive producer, and makeup legend Greg Nicotero is developing Creepshow as an anthology horror TV series and I couldn't be more excited! This is a perfect project for Nicotero to take on!

Nicotero has a long history of working in the horror business. He worked on several Romero films over the course of his career such as Day of the Dead, Monkey Shines, Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead. He also met his makeup effects mentor Tom Savini during a Pittsburgh set visit to the original Creepshow film.

Nicotero had this to say in a statement:

"Creepshow is a project very close to my heart! It is one of those titles that embraces the true spirit of horror… thrills and chills celebrated in one of its truest art forms, the comic book come to life! I’m honored to continue the tradition in the ‘spirit’ which it was created.

The series is set to premiere on the horror streaming service Shudder, and Shudder general manager Craig Engler had this to say about the show:

"Creepshow is one of the most beloved and iconic horror anthologies from two masters of the genre, George A. Romero and Stephen King. We’re thrilled to continue their legacy with another master of horror, Greg Nicotero, as we bring a new Creepshow TV series exclusively to Shudder members."

Each episode will tell an original horror story and be helmed by a different filmmaker. Nicotero will direct the first episode and his company KNB EFX Group will handle all of the creature and makeup effects.

You can watch the trailer for the original Creepshow movie below. Are you excited to hear that Creepshow is getting a series!?

Two macabre masters - writer Stephen King and director George A. Romero - conjure up five shocking yarns, each a virtuoso exercise in the ghouls-and-gags style of classic '50s horror comics. A murdered man emerges from the grave for Father's Day cake. A meteor's ooze makes everything ... grow.
