THUNDERCATS #1 Variant Covers - Company Shares That Comic Has Over 100K Pre-Sales
Dynamite Entertainment has released a collection of variant cover art for its upcoming ThunderCats #1 comic. Dynamite also confirmed that the first issue has over 100,000 copies ordered ahead of the Final Order Cutoff (FOC) date, which is pretty impressive.
Dynamite CEO Nick Barrucci said in a statement: “It’s incredibly rewarding that the fans and retailers have supported this so well.” He also noted how unusual it is for a comic to sell so well at the start of the year: “January and February have not had as many strong launches, and it’s why in our optimism that this series would do well, we launched it in February instead of pushing it to the late sprint/early summer.”
The new ThunderCats comic is a reboot of the original 1985 animated series. The series “aims to be a refreshing yet timeless take on the classic mythos and characters, pulling from Shalvey's ability to weave complex narratives alongside the striking visuals from Moss. The initial storyline is currently planned to delve into the earliest days on Third Earth, the world that the ThunderCats are forced to survive on after escaping their original home. With an origin approach in part, the title will explore untold histories and new challenges for Lion-O, Cheetara, and the rest of the group.”
The description reads: “Fleeing through space to escape their dying home world, the ThunderCats were attacked en route by their mortal enemies, the Mutants of Plun-Darr. After diverting their damaged flagship to a planet called Third Earth, the surviving ThunderCats now strive to rebuild their society in harmony with the new world's natives. But the Mutants, determined to possess the ThunderCats' mystical gem, the Eye of Thundera, have tracked them down - and they've also forged an alliance with Mumm-Ra, the devil-priest of Third Earth!”
Now the ThunderCats, “led by an inexperienced Lion-O, must band together as never before to protect their legacy from this combined enemy. But will they be able to withstand the onslaught of Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living, once he sets his eyes upon them?”
The comic is being developed by writer Declan Shalvey and artist Drew Moss. Barrucci went on to say: “Writer Declan Shalvey, artist Drew Moss, and the rest of the creative team have brought together something special for both longtime and newer fans of the ThunderCats franchise,”
The creative team includes cover art created by David Nakayama, Lucio Parrillo, Jae Lee, and Ivan Tao. Check out the ThunderCats #1 covers below:
