Topher Grace Took Peter Jackson's HOBBIT Trilogy and Re-Edited It Into a Two-Hour Movie
Topher Grace seems to have a hobby of taking disappointing trilogies and editing them down into watchable single films. He previously did this in 2012 with George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy and it was actually really good! The actor has now done the same thing with Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. He re-edited into a two-hour film and apparently it's really good!
In an interview with IndieWire, Grace revealed he took on the task of editing down the epic eight-hour trilogy. He says the product is “a lot tighter” than its predecessor, and it’s even tighter than other fan edits, which have gone upwards of four hours long. Grace says:
"I think that maybe The Hobbit should’ve been one movie, and many people would agree. Money drives a lot of those franchises. It’s better when the art leads."
We'll probably never get a chance to see Grace's edit of The Hobbit. His 85-min. Star Wars prequel edit only screened once privately and was online for a very short time. Now you can't even find the trailer for it.
In case you're wondering why Grace took the time to complete this project, he says it was a form of therapy for him after playing David Duke in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman. He explains that it's like "doing woodwork in my garage."
Hopefully one day we'll get to see it because I'd totally watch it!
