I’m sure most of you remember director Vincenzo Natali’s 1997 classic sci-fi horror thriller Cube. Well, Japan has remade the film, the first trailer for that remake has been released, and it looks like a Japanese remake of Cube!

A mysterious cube. 6 men and women are suddenly trapped in Cube. It’s unclear where this is, why they are trapped, whether there is an exit, whether they can survive, or what the room even is.

Lionsgate has been developing a Hollywood remake of the film, but Japan beat them to the punch. The film is being produced by Shochiku, and it’s being directed by Shimizu Yasuhiko (Vise). The film stars Suda Masaki, Okada Masaki, Tashiro Hikaru, Saito Takumi, and Anne. Natali serves as a creative advisor on the project.

Shimizu said in a statement, “No one can resist the powerful system of the Cube. In making this film, it was as though we entered the Cube itself. (That was because we shot the entire film in one place.) We then had to confront ourselves. What lurks in the abyss of the self – hope or despair? You will soon be in the Cube with us. In fact, you may already be in it.”

Cube will open in Japan on October 22, 2021.
