TRUE DETECTIVE Director Working on Stephen King's IT

A couple of years ago director Cary Fukunaga was set to write and direct a feature film adaptation of Stephen King's incredible horror novel It. Fukunaga has directed films such as Sin Nombre and Jane Eyre, but most recently he's been working on the incredible HBO series True Detective. It looks like the director is finally going to get around to getting It into production. It could very well be his next film, which would be great because this movie needs to happen!

Producer Dan Lin gave an update on the film during an interview with Collider saying,

"Cary Fukunaga is writing and directing Stephen King’s It for me, and I’m really excited for that.  So I’m hoping that’ll be his next movie after the indie he’s shooting in Africa.  So I love what he did with True Detective.  I think it’s a great sample for Stephen King’s It.  So I’m really excited about that."

At one point the plan was to develop the novel as a two part movie. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but I really hope that it is. I don't think there's any other way to properly tell that story. I'm a huge fan of the TV series that was made back in the '90s that starred Tim Curry as Pennywise the clown. I wouldn't mind seeing the 'R' rated version of this story on the big screen, but chances are they'll go the PG-13 route. I just want to see this movie finally get made!

Here's the description from the book:

A promise made twenty-eight years ago calls seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city's children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer return as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry's sewers once more.
