Two Great Teaser Trailers for Paramount+ Series HAPPY FACE Based on the Wild True Serial Killer Story

Paramount+ has released two new teaser trailers for their upcoming series Happy Face, based on the wild true story of the Happy Face killer and his daughter. The show stars Annaleigh Ashford as Melissa Moore, and Dennis Quaid as Keith Hunter Jesperson, with James Wolk, David Harewood, Tamera Tomakili, Khiyla Aynne, and Benjamin Mackey.

Happy Face is written and showrun by Jennifer Cacicio (Shooter, Your Honor). It’s been developed by Robert King, Michelle King, and Jennifer Cacicio, with writing by Inda Craig-Galvan, Bam Johnson, and Adam Toltzis. The show is inspired by the story in "Shattered Silence" by Melissa Moore, with episodes directed by Michael Showalter and Darren Grant.

The synopsis reads: “Happy Face is inspired by the true-life story of Melissa G. Moore; and the critically acclaimed Happy Face podcast from iHeartPodcasts and Moore; and the autobiography Shattered Silence, written by Moore with M. Bridget Cook. At 15, Moore discovered that her beloved father was the prolific serial killer known as Happy Face.

“As an adult, she changed her name & guarded her secret while her father has been serving life in prison. Jumping off from Moore’s true-life story, the Paramount+ original series follows Melissa (Ashford) and her incarcerated father, also known as the Happy Face Killer (Quaid).

“After decades of no contact, he finally finds a way to force himself back into his daughter's life. In a race against the clock, Melissa must find out if an innocent man is going to be put to death for a crime he committed. She also discovers the impact her father had on his victims’ families and must face a reckoning of her own identity.”

I am familiar with this case, as I listened to the podcast “Happy Face,” and it was also covered in my favorite podcast, “My Favorite Murder,” episode 257. It’s very interesting to hear it from the daughter’s perspective though. This series looks great, and like it will shed light on the case in a new way.

Check out the trailers below, and start watching Happy Face on Paramount+ on March 20th. The first two episodes will premiere that day, and the remaining six will drop weekly through May 1st.
