Variant Covers for GARGOYLES: DEMONA a Comic That Introduces a Forgotten Daughter and a Epic Storyline
Dynamite Entertainment and Disney are diving deeper into the world of Gargoyles this spring with Gargoyles: Demona, a limited series that takes fans on a journey through centuries of the iconic character’s past.
While Gargoyles continues to find a new audience through Disney+, this new comic event expands the mythology in really cool ways, including the introduction of Angelika, Demona’s forgotten daughter.
For longtime fans, this is a big revelation. We’ve known Angela, the daughter of Demona and Goliath, since the animated series, but Angelika is something different.
Unlike her immortal mother, she experiences the cruel passage of time, aging in ways Demona never will. This story will explore their complex relationship, revealing moments of love and tragedy as Demona is forced to witness her daughter grow old while she remains unchanged.
Creator and writer Greg Weisman says: “Demona has a thousand years’ worth of backstory that our other leads flat-out don’t have. That creates a lot of opportunities for storytelling — and we have a monumental story to tell!”
This limited series, launching in May, will span five pivotal moments in Demona’s long history, offering fans a look at her life while the rest of the Manhattan Clan remained frozen in stone.
The first issue takes us back to 994 AD, the aftermath of the Dark Ages, where Demona’s relentless pursuit of vengeance against Canmore begins. Fans can get an early taste of the story in Dynamite’s Free Comic Book Day special on May 3rd.
Gargoyles: Demona brings back original series veteran Frank Paur, working alongside Weisman once again. Paur, who co-ran the animated series with Weisman, has left a huge mark on animation with projects like Batman: The Animated Series, Spawn: The Animated Series, X-Men: Evolution and Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and more.
But this marks his first mainstream interior comic work. He originally pitched the idea to Weisman, and together they built it into this expansive, deeply personal story.
The creative team also includes editor Nate Cosby and Gargoyles colorist Robby Bevard, ensuring the book maintains the spirit of the original series.
The first issue of Gargoyles: Demona will also feature variant covers by Frank Paur, Meghan Hetrick, Jae Lee, and Mark Spears, giving fans multiple ways to celebrate the launch of this new chapter in Gargoyles history.
For those eager to experience Demona’s story, Gargoyles: Demona #1 hits shelves this May.
