Warner Bros. is Ready To Move Forward with DC's BATGIRL and They're Looking For a Director

Warner Bros. is expecting big things from films such as Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey, and they are now getting serious about moving their Batgirl movie forward because they want it to be a part of the female superhero success that also includes the previously released Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel.

Joss Whedon was original hired to write and direct the film but he and WB ended up parting ways on the project. His version of the movie would have been inspired by the popular “Batgirl of Burnside” comic book run. He left the project after admitting that he couldn’t find a take on the story and character that worked for him.

"Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story. I’m grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed."

Not long after Whedon’s departure Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson jumped on board the project to write the script. There’s no information on the direction of the story that she’s taking.

Well, according to Heroic Hollywood, Batgirl is a priority at WB and they are now on the hunt for a new director to take it on! They don’t offer any names of potential directors, but the studio is looking to hire a woman.

The report also says that the Supergirl movie they’ve been working on could also start shooting as early as 2020.

Are there any directors that you’d like to see bring Batgirl to life?
