Weird Al Yankovic Is Jumping Into The World of Virtual Reality with a New Comedy Short Called SHADY FRIEND
Weird Al Yankovic is one wild, crazy and fun entertainer. He's best known for his silly parody music but has also dabbled in film and TV over the course of his career. Now, he's going to play in the world of virtual reality.
Variety reports that Weird Al is set to star in a new VR comedic short film called Shady Friend that is being produced exclusively for the Positron Voyager VR motion chair. It sounds like it's going to be quite a crazy and trippy experience. Here are the details:
The resulting short film will include not only motion, but also scents and haptic elements — which should make for an interesting experience, given the topic. Shady Friend is all about a heartbroken hero who accidentally takes some psychedelic drugs his less-than reputable buddy has brought over to his apartment.
That should be fun! The short will also star former SNL writer Nick Kocher, Nick Rutherford (Brigsby Bear) and Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights). The film has already been shot but there is no word on when or where we'll be able to watch it. The film was directed and co-written by Andrew Disney and this is what he had to say in a statement:
"What I love most about the Voyager platform is that it allows filmmakers to curate VR experiences in a cinematic way. Positron has created quite an amazing tool for immersive storytelling."
This is the first time a VR film has been produced exclusively for these Voyager motion chairs, which are so far only available in select theaters and VR centers.
