Will Marvel's THE NEW MUTANTS Get a VOD Release? Amazon Adds Then Removes a Pre-Order Option

If there’s one Marvel movie that skips the theatrical release and goes straight to VOD, it would most likely be The New Mutants. The film currently does not have a release date, but Disney planned on releasing it in theaters… until COVID-19 forced movie theaters to shut down. Now we have no idea what the plans for the film are.

While I would love to see the movie on the big screen, there’s a good chance it will end up being made available to rent on VOD. Trailer Track's Anton Volkov recently discovered that the movie was made available for pre-order on Amazon Prime Video. There was no release date, but they included the prices of $25.99 in The US and £13.99 in The UK.

Disney hasn’t made any announcement regarding this and Amazon has since removed the pre-order listing. They also offered the following statement- "Our agreements with the content provider don't allow purchases of this title at this time." 

It looks to me like the might have jumped the gun on this. I wouldn’t be surprised if the film end up being distributed on VOD, though. I’d hate to miss out on the theatrical experience of watching this movie because I’ve been excited about seeing it! But, we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.

The New Mutants was helmed by Josh Boone, and this is the synopsis:

20th Century Fox in association with Marvel Entertainment presents “The New Mutants,” an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.

The cast for the film includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as fallen Mirage.
